Seeing Red

“What’s wrong, Andrea? It’s just a glass of water,” said my husband, Matt. “Are you telling me you don’t see the blood in it?” “What blood? There’s nothing in it. I think you’re still stressed after that nightmare just now.” I felt like I was going crazy. I had never had any kind of hallucinations before, so why was it happening now? I got off the bed and went to the bathroom to wash my face. The moment I opened the tap at the wash basin, it was blood that gushed out of it. I screamed and fell back on the floor. Matt came rushing in to find me terrified and helped me get back to my feet. “There’s blood coming from the tap, Matt!” He stepped forward and looked at it. “That’s still water, Andrea. I think you need to get some rest. All that stress about the upcoming contract must be getting to you.” I didn’t know what to believe. I was so sure I was seeing blood, but he kept saying it wasn’t there. He saw that I still didn’t believe and said he’d prove it. Matt filled a glass with the blo...

The Fell Voice

My aunt, uncle, and cousins were spending the weekend with us at our holiday home. “Aria, let’s play hide and seek,” said my cousins, Tamara and Leo. I smiled and joined them. Leo decided to be the first seeker and asked Tamara and me to go hide. I was looking for a place to hide when my hand struck a bookshelf. Suddenly, it moved to a side, opening a secret entrance to a long tunnel made of orange clay. I walked through the entrance, only to have the bookshelf seal me within the darkness. I banged on the bookshelf and screamed for help, but no one came. I kept calling out to everyone, but it all seemed futile. I decided to walk ahead and find my way out. I didn’t know for how long I walked aimlessly in there, but at one point, I sat down and closed my eyes, unable to advance anymore. I must have passed out for hours, because I woke up to rumbles from my stomach. To my surprise, I was at another end of the tunnel, with a door before me. The door slowly creaked open, leading me to the o...

The Fugitives

The weekend rolled around and I was finally free of court cases, at least for two days. I spent the entire day cleaning the house and buying necessities. On my way home from the supermarket, I decided to visit my parents’ graves. However, when I arrived at their plot, their tombstones weren’t there. There was no chance that I was at the wrong plot, so I figured it had to be some kind of vandalism. I went to the police station to file a complaint about the issue and they agreed to look into it. That night, I could barely close my eyes in bed. I couldn’t fathom what had happened, or who could’ve committed such an odd crime. Who robbed just tombstones? My parents passed away only six months ago; they were both soldiers who got caught in a bomb blast. I wondered whether there was a connection to the military. The next day, the police asked my permission to exhume their remains; it turned out that the bodies I believed to be my parents’ were actually two others’. As the cops investiga...

Trapped Within

“Where am I? How did I get here?” I woke up to find myself in strange surroundings. I was dressed differently; it was as if I was in a renaissance fair. I pinched myself trying to wake myself from a possible nightmare, but I soon realized that I was wide awake. I looked around, trying to figure out if I was being held captive. I tried to use my powers, but nothing happened; there was most likely a spell preventing me from using them. Having no other choice, I turned the door before me. It led to a hallway. I tiptoed down the hallway, not wanting to alert any possible abductors, but there was no one around. I soon found myself in a dining room. I walked around wondering how I ended up there. And then I heard a voice. I looked around, but saw no one. A door then opened, revealing a giant eye on the other side. The giant put its hand through the door and grabbed me at once, pulling me out with haste. To my surprise, I recognised her: it was Nelly, one of my kindergarten students. “N...
