The Pony Friend

Image
The day after my parents and I returned home from our trip to the countryside, I pleaded with them to get me a pony. The pony rides were truly an enthralling experience—one that I wished I could live through every day. My parents were hesitant at first, but they finally said they’d give me a pony. However, weeks turned into months, and I eventually wrote to Santa, requesting one for Christmas. The next morning, I woke up to my parents yelling outside. I rushed to the porch to see what the commotion was and found myself stupefied upon seeing a fire-breathing pony galloping around the garden. The second the pony saw me, however, it stopped running and slowly approached me. My parents stood in front of me, blocking its path, but I snuck past them to greet my new friend. The pony had a string chain around its neck, and to it was attached an envelope that was addressed to me. I undid the strings and opened the envelope; my eyes widened as I read the letter in it. Dear Alina, Thank you so mu...

Monster Friend

My twin sister, Annie, always complained about monsters being under her bed and asked my parents to chase them away. She would often scream, making me lose sleep every day since we shared the same bedroom. One day, I decided to sleep under her bed to get her to stop complaining. Annie pleaded with me not to do it, but I said I’d prove to her that there was nothing to worry about. Grabbing my pillow and blanket, I crawled into that narrow space and stared up into the darkness. It wasn’t long before I was beginning to fall asleep, but I was suddenly jolted by movement next to me. I turned to my left and found myself stupefied at the sight before me: it was a humanoid girl no bigger than me, but her skin was pale blue, and she had a third eye on her forehead. I was about to scream when the girl covered my mouth and shook her head. “Please don’t make me hide; I mean you no harm.” There was a tremble in both her voice and her hands. My instincts told me I could trust her, so I nodded and mo...

The Kingdom in the Sky

Image
Once upon a time, in a kingdom in the sky, lived a king, a queen, and a little princess called Anastasia. The princess would look down at the earth and wonder if there were kids like her there. Meanwhile, a lonely little prince would look up at the sky and ask the same question. One day, while the princess was playing in the clouds, she noticed the prince looking up and waved at him. However, the prince didn’t wave back; he just continued to stare at the sky. The confused princess went to her mother and said, “Mama, that prince down there is rude. He didn’t even wave back!” The queen smiled and cradled Anastasia in her arms. “No, honey, he just doesn’t see you.” “But he looked right at me.” “I assure you, he can’t see us even though we can see him. Our kingdom is enchanted.” “Can I go down sometime to play?” Anastasia asked. “Maybe when you’re a little older, honey.” The queen smiled and hugged the princess. Anastasia, however, was impatient. That night, while in bed, she wished to be ...

The Troubled Prince

Image
Once upon a time, there lived a king, a queen, and their beautiful baby boy, Prince Heath. They were very happy until, one day, the queen died of pneumonia. The saddened king soon took his grief out on the people around him. He imprisoned the royal physician for not being able to save the queen and was ruthless to his guards and servants. Anyone who made the slightest mistake was punished. The little prince, like most children, imitated his father, and a servant boy called John, who was his friend, bore the brunt of it. Prince Heath would make fun of the way the boy dressed, calling him a beggar while beating him. The king’s magician noticed this and decided to take action. “I can’t do anything about the king himself, but perhaps I could make the prince a better person,” he thought. And so, the magician switched the two boys’ bodies. Not knowing what had happened, the prince continued to bully John. The king, who was passing by at the time, slapped the boy who he thought was the servan...
