Descending Shadows: The Witch's Hour

“Take this, you monster,” Nolan said, cutting its hands off with his sword. It screamed as it went up in flames, but more jumped in. We fought them off, but once we were done, I noticed one of the people who joined us lying on the floor injured. I checked to see if he was alive and, to my dismay, he was gone. “This is bad… We can't continue this, we need a plan or soon, we'll all be lying dead on the floor. There are too many of them for just a handful of us to fight off,” I said. “I understand that, but what are we supposed to do? It's not like we have any other options,” Nolan replied. “I don't know, but we need to think of a way to get rid of all of them.” “Before that, we need to fix the roof,” Leslie said. We fixed the roof and also added Zavaryan salt on it. We then went to our rooms, hoping there would be no more attacks. There, I lay in bed, reminiscing how happy we were before the Serpians came. ‘Nolan, but how?’ I asked myself. He almost grabbed me, but I jumped aside. “Nolan, it's me, Moon! We've known each other since we were kids; that's your sister, Leslie!” I was confused. ‘How did this happen? Perhaps it’s the venom? Maybe he still has some in his system. I rushed to the kitchen and prepared the antidote I remember my mother used at the time. I shoved the drink down his throat with Leslie’s help. Everyone else was watching from a distance as it all unfolded. Within seconds of ingesting the antidote, Nolan went unconscious. I then told Leslie to keep an eye on him and went and made some more for myself. My vision blurred as my head grew heavy; I passe

“What? Demons again?” I asked, getting to my feet. “Moon, you’re in no condition to fight any demons!” Leslie said. “It’s just a group of people looking for shelter,” Nolan said as he walked in. “Oh, alright,” I said, getting back in bed. Leslie let out a sigh and sat next to me. “Here have your dinner, and call me if you need anything.” After she left the room, I sighed and looked at the food laying in front of me. I wasn't  hungry. My mind wandered off to what happened during my last battle; I wished I could have gone with my parents. But they were right: I am needed here, and I can't abandon my brother and my friends when they need me the most. I managed to force some food down my throat before Leslie came back to complain: “Why haven't you eaten your food, Moon?” “I ate as much as I could, but I’m not that hungry.” “Fine,” Leslie replied. She took the tray away and came back with a bowl of ice cream and a piece of cake covered in choco
