Deep Evil

“I hope you don’t come back again, Mr. Cramer,” the old jailor said. “I make no promises,” the man replied with a chuckle as he walked out of the prison. Alan Cramer was a notorious burglar in his town, spending more time behind bars than he did in his own house. Despite the jailor's sincere words, not a week went by before he found a new target. It was a wealthy businessman called Kane Law, who lived alone on the outskirts of the town. On a day when Law was out of town, when midnight arrived, Cramer sprung into action; he infiltrated his target’s house with ease. Cramer hid in the blindspots of the CCTV cameras and climbed the parapet walls to disable them. There were two German Shepherds waiting for him on the other side, but he bribed them with meat. Cramer had heard from a maid who worked at the Law’s house that there was a room that was off limits to everyone except him. Everyone who worked for Law assumed he hid money and other riches in there. The maid said that she was fire

The computer monitor glowed green and alerted me of the ray gun’s completion. I turned to my coworker on the other side of the room to let him know. “ Malroy, it’s done; the prototype is ready.” “Are you sure, Danielle?” “Yes. Let’s test it out on the Martian.” I picked up the weapon and left the lab with Malroy. We walked down a couple of halls before arriving at the room we were holding the Martian in. We stepped inside, armed: Malroy with a tranquiliser gun and me with the ray gun. The Martian growled behind the bars that sealed it. As I pointed my gun at it, it shuddered and moved back. I slowly advanced towards its cell and positioned myself a few feet away from it. I could see the Martian’s instincts alarm its body; its eyes widened as it moved further away, faster than before; but it stopped at the centre of the cell and took a deep breath before looking around the room. It then looked at Malroy, and then me, and held my gaze. I wondered whether it accepted its fate. I squeezed

The Dark Pact

My birthday was the worst day of my life. My parents died of asphyxiation when I was 16, but there was no evidence to suggest whether it was accidental or premeditated. I wished I was there at the time to know what exactly had happened. My parents sent me abroad to live with my grandparents when I turned 12. They never gave me a believable reason for it; I was only told that their work was about to become too hectic, and that they wouldn’t have the time to take care of me. When I turned 18, I decided to revisit my home and look for clues. “Delia, where are you?” “Be there in a minute, grandma!” I came down the stairs to find my grandmother holding a cake. “Grandma, I told you: I don’t want any cake until I solve this mystery.” “Dear, it has been two years now. Your parents wouldn’t want you obsessing about this so much that you forget to live your own life.” “I know, grandma. I just…” No words came to my mind or mouth. I felt my frustration pull at my skin as my hands began to tremble.

The Deadly Dose

I was on the night shift during the daily checks for a patient in a coma when I felt a hand grab me. It was the patient, Dr. Mary Peterson, who had a fall at the hospital ten years ago. "Nurse, I don't have much time. I need to tell you something before they come for me." "What? Who is coming for you?" "I know this will sound crazy, but they tried to kill me." "What are you talking about? Who tried to kill you?" "Dr. Allison Tuft and Dr. Priyalal Gunasekera. They weren't giving the morphine to the patients; they were giving them water while stealing the drugs." "Wait, really?" "I once saw Gunasekera leaving the hospital with some morphine. He said it was for an elderly lady in the apartment next door, but then I found out that he had stolen what was meant for one of our patients. Several patients died that same month, and when I threatened to tell the authorities, they tried to kill me." "But I thought

The Fallen: The Nephilim's Stand

“Energy of an archangel? What are you saying, Remiel? Both my parents are human.” “Yes, but this connection goes back six centuries, when one of your predecessors got involved with the archangel Saraqael.” “Alright, so why have my powers been dormant all this time?” “Because Raguel sealed it himself back then.” My mind went blank—I couldn’t think straight. I sat on the ground and closed my eyes to take a deep breath. “I know this is a lot to process, but we can’t linger here,” Raguel said. “You and I are the only archangels that remain free from Saraqael’s grasp now, Remiel.” “What about Gabriel and Uriel?” “Gabriel’s dead, and Uriel’s probably being tortured for our location right now.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; there was an all-out war in heaven itself. Remiel teleported the three of us out of the field. We arrived at a place unlike anything I had seen before: it bore neither shape nor form, and had an indiscernible nature. “This is one of the boundaries between worlds

The Fallen: Waking the Dormant

I was nearing the state line in my car when a bright light fell from the sky and onto a field. I stopped my car off the road and wondered whether it was a meteorite. I called the cops and walked towards the site, but what I found was something I did not expect: there was a man in the middle of the crater. Had he fallen from the sky? He looked human, although his clothes were unlike anything I had ever seen.. What was even more intriguing was that he appeared to be unscathed; not even his clothes were either torn or burnt. I was hesitant to take a step forward, but then the man woke up. He saw me and crawled back, looking around with his eyes agape and his hands quivering. “Where am... Wait, who am I?” he asked. My suspicions were confirmed. He was an alien. “I think you’re an alien. You fell from the skies. As for where you are, this is Earth. Do you really not remember anything at all?” The man shook his head; his breathing grew heavier as he looked at his hands. He laid against the
