The Fifth Horseman
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were uncontested, and God was all but a mere silent spectator as they wrought devastation upon many lands. Countless people were plunged into seas of suffering as plagues and wars ravaged their homes. The fewer numbers that survived were forced to flee and relocate, but the horsemen were relentless; they would not leave people in peace for long.
Then emerged a being capable of undoing their carnage as the Unseen Forces of the universe sought to maintain an equilibrium—it was the Fifth Horseman. They helped humans rebuild their homes and regrow their crops, and even helped diffuse lingering tensions that dwelt in the hearts of different communities. They quelled all animosity as much as they healed all diseases, ensuring that prosperity always remained on the horizon even in the darkest of times.
Enraged by this new development, the Four Horsemen turned to Heaven and Hell, seeking their counsel. Neither side wished to intervene, saying what emerges from the Unseen Forces can only be unmade by them alone, for once the multiverse came to be, there had been no intervention from either side. The horsemen’s rage burned even brighter as their wishes remained unfulfilled. They then devised a plan to rid the Fifth Horseman.
From that day on, the horsemen did the opposite of what they had previously done, stealing the duties of the new horseman. This slowly turned the Fifth Horseman, contorting them into the polar opposite and raising them to be a force of destruction far greater than the powers of the Four Horsemen combined. Continents burned and crumbled, and seas were set aflame. This turn of events made the Unseen Forces eliminate the Fifth Horseman from existence.
With the one great obstacle that stood in their way now gone, the Four Horsemen were now free to do whatever they pleased. However, they decided not to be rash, unlike before. From that point on, they bided their time and worked together to bring death and devastation upon humanity from time to time, making sure no action was out of place or too soon. Heaven and Hell still remained the silent spectators they were before as the world continued to twist in torment.
