Descending Shadows: The Demon-slayer

Image
The shadows appeared suddenly, turning everything in the vicinity cold, almost freezing. It was the time evil lurks, looking for souls to devour. I could feel it in the air, I could smell the stench of rotting flesh coming from the streets. It was time. I grabbed my sword and dagger, and other gear, before rushing over to wake my little brother up. He was fast asleep, so peaceful… Like a little angel. I smiled before tapping on his shoulder and waking him up. “Is it morning already, Moon?” he asked, rubbing his eyes. “Yes, it is, and we have to go now,” I said. “Where?” he asked. “I need to drop you at the welfare centre,” I replied. “You’re going to hunt monsters again, aren’t you?” he asked with a concerned look on his face.  “Don’t worry, Jason. I’ll be back before dinner to get you,” I said. “That's what Mom and Dad said before they left and never came back,” he said, sounding skeptical. “I know, but I’m not them. I’m not going to leav...

During that time, new evidence against the defendant came to light; Anderson had hired a private investigator to keep tabs on his wife. The PI, Samuel Martin, said in court that Jane Anderson had been regularly meeting up with a younger man, and that he had given the information to her husband a week before she was murdered. “Did you provide him with any proof?” Ferdinanz asked. “Yes, I gave him photographs of the two together,” the PI replied. “Were there any compromising photos, and do you have any copies with you?” the prosecutor inquired. “No, as far as I found out, they were only meeting for lunch,” he replied; “and yes, I do have some copies back at my apartment.” “I see. Well, she was a businesswoman, so it could have been one of her associates, right?” Ferdinanz asked. “Maybe, I don't know,” Martin replied. “He's lying! I don't know this man; I never hired him!” Cyril Anderson yelled. “Ord...

“All rise,” the bailiff announced as Judge Charles Irwin stepped into the courtroom. The case then began when the defendant was asked, “How do you plead?” “Not guilty, your honour” he replied. “Okay, let the proceedings begin,” the judge said. It was the Jane Anderson murder case, where she was alleged to have been killed by her husband, Anderson. The defendant Cyril Anderson was put on the stand. “Mr. Anderson, did you kill your wife?” the prosecutor, Warren Ferdinanz, asked. “No, I didn't,” he replied. “Then how do you explain your fingerprints being on the murder weapon?” he asked. “I saw my wife on the floor with a knife in her stomach, so I pulled it out. What else was I supposed to do?” Anderson replied. “Don’t you know that pulling the knife out could actually lead a victim to bleed to death?” the prosecutor asked. “No, I didn’t. I’m not a doctor,” he replied. “And isn’t it interesting that only your fingerprints were found ...
