The Ceaseless Cycle

When does the cycle of colonisation end? My people have experienced it for over a century, with one party handing over the torch to another to burn our homes to the ground. The hypocrisy of the second party far overshadowed that of even their predecessor, for it was their people who came to us seeking refuge in times of war and persecution—when an international alliance sought to reign over other nations, deeming them as inferior races.

However, what was even worse than the refugees’ hypocrisy was their treachery, not just towards us, but to many of their own people. A great number of them cooperated with the previous colonisers while they were living among us as equals, seeking to form a nation of their own by driving us out. As a result, they sent many of their own people to that supremacist alliance as nothing but lambs to the slaughter. Those blood sacrifices became the cornerstones upon which they began to build their empire, and soon, it would be them who would remove the masks that were hiding their true supremacist nature as they deemed my people unworthy of our own homeland.

These refugees that turned into colonisers then bombarded us relentlessly, reducing everything and everyone we ever knew to bloody stains upon fractured cities and towns. They drove us away from our homes and annexed our lands, allowing their own people to invade those regions and make settlements. Meanwhile, my people were slaughtered for even protesting against their cruelty. Children are burnt alive, parents are shot dead while trying to retrieve the remains of their children, and even fleeing crowds are bombarded as they seek shelter in the few lands in which they are able to take refuge. These people know nothing of mercy or kindness.

When my people did form a resistance and stand up to our oppressors, most of the world, who backed the colonisers, labelled us as terrorists when they were the ones committing acts of terror. Do we not deserve the right to defend ourselves? Is it so wrong for us to protect the ones we love from the actual terrorists that rain fire upon us every single day? Today, they have more than eighty percent of our lands under their control. If they were to wipe us out and take even the remainder of our land, these monsters would not stop there—the nations around us would be their next targets.

Much like the supremacists that saw them as inferior, they see everyone else as inferior; and they will stop at nothing to destroy everything and everyone in their path until they build the empire they believe they are entitled to possess. As the tensions grow, the only glimmer of hope I see is that more and more people are learning the truth about them. They can spread their propaganda all they want, but no person with a clear mind would ever believe that one group of people is chosen to govern over everyone else. The gears of time will reveal how this ends.
