The Unseen: Betrayal

‘Doctor Rhodes was weird and confusing. I wonder what he’s looking for?’ I asked myself on my way to the office. On my way back home, I went to the hospital—and what I heard was unbelievable. “Are you sure; couldn't the mistake be from your end?” I asked. “No, it's not,” he said. “Okay, now you need to do as I say to solve this issue,” he said. “I agree, doctor. I'll do anything,” I said.

“Oh, no, I have left my files at the office by mistake,” I said. “Don't worry, honey, I'll get them. Just give me the keys,” Miles said. After an hour or so, he came back with the files. “How are you planning to go through all these today?” he asked. “I'll go through as much as I can,” I said. Miles tried to give me medicine, which I turned down. I went to sleep after going through most of the files; by that time, Miles was already asleep. I woke up trembling again, unable to move. After a few minutes, the light came on and Miles looked at me. “Oh, no, not again,” he said as he sat next to me. “We have to do something or you'll end up in the hospital again,” he said. “I know, '' I said.

I went to meet the doctor and gave him the tape. He played it, and to my amazement, I found out what was really going on. I cried as I was shocked at what I saw.

I went back home without going to the office. “Giada, what happened? why are you back so soon?” Miles asked. I want to show you something,” I replied. “What?” he asked. “Sit,” I said as I put the tape on. “What's going on, are we watching porn?” he asked. “What's this; is this our bedroom? Did you set up a video camera in our bedroom?” he asked, sounding shocked. “Yes, I did, and there you are, mixing the medicine with some other drugs and mixing something into my water. What was it, what did you drug me with? Was it a hallucinogen? Because my blood tested positive for it!” I said. “So this is why you sent me to the office yesterday,” he said. “Yes, so tell me; why have you been pretending to be the perfect husband while underhandedly trying to drive me nuts? If not for Dr Rhode's keen thinking, you would have gotten away with it!” I said. He sat there, dumbfounded, unable to utter a word.

“Why, Miles, why?” I asked. “Why not? I loved you more than myself, and you chose Jonathan over me,” he said. “What, so you used Jonathan's death to take your revenge? Is that why you married me?” I asked. “No, I married you because I still loved you—that's why I killed Jonathan,” he replied. “What, you killed Jonathan?” I asked, shocked. “Yes, and it was easy. He had depression, so all I needed was to mix enough drugs in his liquor to cause an overdose,” Miles replied.

“What? But he was your friend!” I said. “No, he wasn't; he knew how strongly I felt about you, but he stole you away from me!” Miles said. “I chose him; it was all me!” I said. “Yes, despite all my sacrifices, you still chose him over me,” he said. “What are you talking about? What sacrifices?” I shouted. “I killed him for you,” he replied. “You murdered my husband and say you sacrificed him for me?” I asked. “Yes, I did it for us,” he said. “You may have married me, but you are still his widow—you still carry his name and run his company,” he said. “His company became mine when he died, and I kept the name because of the company name being ‘The Estephans’,” I said. “Recently, I had been thinking of changing my name, but I'm glad I didn't,” I said.

“All this was revenge; you killed Jonathan and married me, and then tried to drive me nuts?” I asked. “I never planned to drive you nuts, but when you decided to keep his name, it just broke me. And as time passed by, it just got worse; I just couldn't take it anymore!" he said. “And now that you know everything, I have to send you to Jonathan,” he said, picking up a bottle of pills and coming towards me.

“What, what’re you doing?” I asked “Doing what I have to do. Don't worry, you won't be forgotten, because my book is based on our life, and your death...with just a few changes,” he said as he grabbed me and shoved me onto the bed. He then opened the bottle of pills and tried to force open my mouth. Right then, the police sirens sound came on. “What's that? Did you set me up, you bitch?” he growled, rushing to the window. “I got off the bed and, as I tried to run off, he grabbed ahold of my hand and dragged me to the sock drawer. He then pulled out a gun and said, “Let's have a reunion with Jonathan,” as he held it to my head.

“Put down the gun,” came a voice from behind. “Sorry, Giada...I love you,” he said, looking at me and putting the gun against his head before pulling the trigger.
